When are stores open in Lancaster County for Thanksgiving and Black Friday? | Local News

Fewer major retailers are opening on Thanksgiving for holiday shoppers this year. Experts say that’s because kicking off the holiday shopping season has become a five-day event that spans digital and physical stores.

That said, a number of major retailers will open their physical stores at dawn or before Black Friday, led by Best Buy, Cabela’s, JC Penney, Old Navy and Walmart at 5 a.m.

A LNP | LancasterOnline’s survey of retailers revealed that only Dollar General, Big Lots and Cabela’s planned to open on Thanksgiving Day. Lancaster County’s major malls: Park City, Tanger Outlets and The Shops at Rockvale are all closed.

The Thanksgiving shutdown trend began before the pandemic and accelerated through Christmas 2020 and 2021, experts said.

“Each year, retailers make the best decision for their customers and employees in terms of whether or not to open on Thanksgiving,” said Katherine Cullen, senior director of industry and consumer insights at National Retail. Federation. “Over the past few years, retailers have shifted their approach to reflect the fact that Thanksgiving weekend has become a five-day shopping event that spans online, mobile and in-store. For some retailers, this has eased the pressure to be open on Thanksgiving Day, as consumers are just as comfortable browsing weekend deals from their mobile devices or desktop computers.

It’s good to check websites and stores ahead of Black Friday, as many sales start early. Walmart, for example, launches new sale items every Monday in November. The catch is that you have to be a member. Barnes & Noble begins its holiday sales on November 21.

This year, Thanksgiving is November 24 and Black Friday is November 25.
