Mark: Veilance
Season: Fall / Winter 2021
To buy: The Veilance site and select Arc’teryx stores.
Editor’s Notes: In an industry where inclusion is often, uh, lacking (to say the least), more diverse product offerings are always welcome, especially in high-end technical clothing. Veilance’s FW21 women’s clothing collection is the first of its kind for the Arc’teryx sub-label and it’s a pretty impressive start.
I’m not saying this just because I’m a fan of Creative Director Taka Kasuga, but because the collection is more than just revamped menswear.
This is not a “sister” label: Veilance is a full-fledged feminine line, so refined and clean that it reflects the clean lines of non-technical brands like The Row. No wonder Jil Sander works with Arc.
âWe identified the most iconic pieces in a woman’s modern wardrobe and applied a complete technical overhaul,â Kasuga said. âWomen often have to choose between designer pieces that are beautiful, but cannot withstand the wettest and coldest conditions, or traditional outerwear that is too stiff and harsh. Veilance femme is the marriage of the two: soft and contemporary materials. silhouettes, but with the peak climate performance for which we are known. “
It’s an authentic approach, which most other big players in the high-end tech arena lack. Veilance incorporated new textiles – malleable Polartec Neoshell – and design elements – creating ergonomic 3D models – to create completely distinct pieces from the men’s clothing offering.
The 11 items, from down coats and knee-length raincoats to technical fabric skirts and slit hem pants, reflect Veilance’s knack for reducing a garment to its lowest form, regardless of gender. . Futuristic uniforms for everyone!
