Thieves target LA, OC Chanel Stores in Heists – NBC Los Angeles

Two Chanel stores in Beverly Grove and Newport Beach Fashion Island had items stolen and damaged property just 12 hours apart.

The Beverly Grove burglary happened around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday and was deemed a “smash and grab.”

Video taken by a worker early in the morning saw a van crash into the storefront, as a crew of at least eight people in three vehicles exited the van and carried away thousands of dollars worth of Chanel bags.

The white van has been recovered, but there is still no description of the other two vehicles involved. Five individuals were taken into custody.

The robbery of the Chanel boutique at the Nieman Marcus took place 12 hours later, around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

A man was seen coming through the door, eventually breaking the glass. He and at least six other people ran out of the store with thousands of dollars worth of Chanel bags.

The store was ransacked with more than a dozen handbags on the floor, and in the police chase, officers say the thieves threw the stolen Chanel bags out the window and onto the 405 and 73 freeways.

Police are still looking for some of those involved in the theft.
