Miami Dolphins to lean on Jevon Holland in week 12

As the Miami Dolphins gear up for the Carolina Panthers, the team will need rookie safety Jevon Holland to play a major role.

Head coach Brian Flores officially announced on Friday that former Oregon Ducks safety and second-round pick Jevon Holland will be active for the team’s Week 12 game. Of all the players who were questionable before this game, Holland could be the most important.

In Week 10 for the Dolphins, Holland played his best game of the season and young career. In 70 defensive snaps, Holland managed to produce 2 defensive saves, 4 QB presses on 21 blitzes and allowed 3 assists for 32 yards on 5 targets.

Holland were all over the field and featured frequently on the show as the Dolphins held Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens by 10 points and 94 rushing yards. Against one of the best offensives in the league, Holland played a major role in Jackson’s imbalance.

With Cam Newton back in the Panthers fold, it adds extra momentum to a charged offense that stalled due to Sam Darnold’s shoulder injury. While they lost to the Washington football team last week, Newton was able to throw and rush for a touchdown.

With an offense starring Christian McCaffrey, DJ Moore and Robby Anderson, the Dolphins’ defense will need to be on high alert. With a running quarterback and top-of-the-line offensive weapons, the Dolphins will have to treat this game the same as the game against the Ravens.

While the Panthers have a more dynamic backfield with McCaffery in play, the Dolphins can’t give Cam Newton the opportunity to do whatever he wants. Using Holland in the same way as against Baltimore could tip the scales in their favor.

Assuming Emmanuel Ogbah, Jaelan Phillips, Christian Wilkins and Raekwon Davis are able to handle it all from the start, Dolphins defensive coordinator Josh Boyer will be able to move Holland. However, Holland will likely play in depth most of the game if the currently questionable Brandon Jones is unable to play.

While it’s likely Flore won’t give Holland 70 snaps due to her knee and ankle injuries, the young security should see a decent workload and huge impact in Week 12.
