Matalan in hot water over £20 Jubilee dress a day after ASDA plunged in same row

Matalan has launched a Union Jack dress which was made for mums and daughters ahead of the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations, but buyers are unhappy

Matalan’s £20 offer has caused a stir with people excited about the upcoming Jubilee.

High street fashion retailer Matalan is in hot water for a £20 Jubliee dress – just a day after the Asda row was plunged into the same row.

The clothing giant has been praised by shoppers for its ‘pretty’ £20 Jubilee dress which has proven popular with shoppers, Manchester Evening News reported.

However, the shop found itself in hot water with shoppers over a matching Union Jack dress which was made for mums and daughters ahead of the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations.

After debuting her Union Jack dress, the clothing retailer shared a photo of the dress, writing, “Jubilee weekend is fast approaching and this [is] the perfect garden party dress Shop the dress for £20.”

The ’70s Papaya Blue Floral Ruched Midi Dress doesn’t have Union Jacks all over it, but it does have a pattern suitable for a garden party.

There is a problem with Matalan’s dress – it is completely sold out.

And just like Asda, the only size available is size 10.

ASDA said their Jubilee dresses were so popular they sold out in “record time”.

Supermarket giant ASDA had issued an apology after launching a range of matching £8 Jubilee dresses for mums, aunts, sisters, grandmothers and daughters.

Asda’s George posted a picture of the dresses to his 727,000 followers this week and said: ‘Twin in dresses worthy of Queens. Prices from £8!”

The supermarket says the dresses were so popular they sold out in “record time”.

They were so popular with customers ahead of the bank holiday long weekend that shoppers took to Instagram to complain after selling online.

Responding in the comments, Asda’s George offered an explanation and said: “Sorry folks, you loved the dress so much it sold out in record time!!

“The team is working hard to get more sizes available online. It may be worth checking out your local ASDA store.”

This left shoppers less impressed with the limited sizes available as social users expressed disappointment.

Suzanne Oliver wrote: “You keep putting lovely dresses on here then when you look on the site they are never in stock, some never come back in stock, what’s the point?!”

Manders JG replied, “100% agree! It happens all the time and it’s annoying! ! !

Sarah Kate O’Connor said: “I hope it comes back in stock.” But for the most part, people were blown away by the beauty of the dress.

Lucy Blackburn praised, “I have this. It’s very soft and comfortable.” Jenny Stubbs said: “I love this dress.”

Natasha Staddon commented, “Love this one.” Annmarie Welch said, “This one is so pretty.”

Matalan was approached for comment.
