Albertsons shines a spotlight on its own brand products that are preferred by customers
Albertsons Cos. unveiled the winners of its inaugural Fresh Picks Exclusive Product Awards, in which customers of the grocery store’s supermarket banners voted for their favorite own-brand products.
The combination of Signature Select ice cream and Signature Select Store baked cookies topped the votes, Boise, Idaho-based Albertsons said Monday. Announced in October, the Fresh Picks rewards program asked shoppers to choose their favorite store brands from Top Rated / Reviewed and Top Sellers across seven categories – Treat Yourself Combo, Go-To Easy Meal, Good For You Favorite, Grab-And -Go, Kid Favorites, Breakfast Nosh and Adult Beverage – in all company stores. Customers were also able to track the number of product votes via social media.
The winning products in each category, as well as the overall preferred product, will bear the seal of the Fresh Picks Product Award winner. Albertsons Cos. said its stores will launch exclusive offers, loyalty offers and recipe content for the winning products in January.
By category, the first Fresh Picks Product Award winners, based on over 150,000 customer votes, were:

Breakfast : Bacon Select Signature (Finalist: O Organics cage-free eggs)
Adult drink: Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Signature (Finalist: O Organics Coffee)

Albertsons ended fiscal 2020 with more than 12,000 private label products after adding more than 1,200 items, with the portfolio generating dollar sales of more than $ 14 billion. During the second quarter of fiscal 2021 ended Sept. 11, the company rolled out more than 400 new private label SKUs with an expected number of more than 800 new items for the entire year.
The supermarket giant’s 12 own brands are led by the Signature family of products – including Signature Select, Signature Reserve, Signature Farms, Signature Cafe and Signature Care – as well as O Organics, Open Nature and Lucerne. Of these labels, four are billion dollar brands: Lucerne, O Organics, Signature Select and Signature Cafe, and Open Nature is expected to join this club. The private label portfolio also includes Waterfront Bistro, Primo Taglio, Debi Lilly Design and Value Corner.
Overall, Albertsons Cos. operates 2,278 grocery and drug stores in 34 states and the District of Columbia under more than 20 retail banners including Albertsons, Safeway, Vons, Jewel-Osco, Shaw’s, Acme, Tom Thumb, Randalls, United Supermarkets, Pavilions, Star Market, Haggen, Carrs, Kings Food Markets and Balducci’s Food Lovers Market.
