Southeastern Grocers recently celebrated some praise for their house brand wines. Fresco y Más parent company Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie announced that its private label and market exclusivity wines have won several awards at the fourth annual USA Wine Ratings competition. Southeastern Grocers operates grocery and liquor stores, as well as in-store drugstores, in five southeastern states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi.

The company’s wines have been the favorites of wine critics this year, winning three “Best in Show” awards, eight gold medals, 29 silver medals and four bronze medals. Southeastern Grocers was not the only company to win awards for house brand wines. Lidl Store Brand Vino won 47 medals in total in the same competition.

“It is an honor to have over 40 of our private label and market exclusive wines recognized by USA Wine Ratings,” said Gayle Shields, vice president of pharmacy and private labels, Southeastern Grocers. “At Southeastern Grocers, we work hard to create high quality products that our customers love and that retain the value they are accustomed to. The accolades received at the annual awards ceremony prove that our hard work and desire to create exceptional products have paid off for our customers. Cheers!”

The 2021 USA Wine Ratings competition was held in San Francisco in July and featured over 1,000 wines from around the world. The products have been judged on quality, value and packaging by wine professionals.

Of the 41 medals Southeastern Grocer won for its house brand wines, eight wines won gold and scored over 90 points on the 100 point scale. The most awarded wines include Pinot Noir Saddlebred Cellars, Fontaine de Chocolat, Los Frailes Sinergia Cabernet Sauvignon, Caracol Serrano Red Blend, River & Vine Cabernet Sauvignon, Bodegas Nodus Chaval Joven, Juicy Hill Cabernet and SunBay Cellars Moscato.

Saddlebred Cellars’ Pinot Noir, which scored 94 points, making it the company’s highest rated wine, was also named the Show’s Best Pinot Noir. Fontaine de Chocolat obtained 93 points and was named best fortified wine in the show and best German wine in the show.
